In the Dead of Winter
Posted by Admin | Filed under Uncategorized
What’s that I wrote about the first snow? I was right. The city barely plows when we have a plow able snowstorm. They did manage to kill two of my trashcans with the city plow. I think they feel guilty about it as now the plow out my driveway after I leave for work. That’s okay by me, I’ll buy a couple more trash cans in the spring!
Here we are in February and I’m told the Groundhog said we’ll have 6 more weeks of winter. Well, I have news as we always have 6 more weeks of winter until the sun crosses the equator! It’s an excuse for them to have a festival in the middle of winter. I’ll stay inside where it’s warm.
A good and dear friend I’ve known now for a couple of years has given me a kudo on their website. Casey Thompson from Top Chef fame has her new site up and it looks good. It’s at: chefcaseythompson.com The folks at Thinking, Inc. in Dallas have done a great job with it. It’s still a work in progress. (Good job Tad!) Just click on “Buzz” on the top right then on the next page click on “Fresh Stuff”. Yep.. That’s me.. ‘superfan’. (Ha ha!). I took on her personal media website some time ago, as through someone else I got to know her. When she started to persue her professional interests in a direction she wanted, she decided that someone in her hometown of Dallas should manage those interests for legal reasons. As a one person show, I was having a hard time trying to keep up with emails from organizations and people wanting to book her for events. (I’m told she books for about $10k per day, plus travel, plus expenses - as a baseline.)
I’m in the wrong business!
First Snow
Posted by Admin | Filed under Uncategorized
Well.. it did finally shed some white ice from the sky. We must have got about 2 inches of the heavy wet variety. I can’t believe that the City actually thought this was plow able. We’ll get a foot of snow in January and they won’t bother.. I’m sure my road will be a cavern by spring as the plow keeps pushing an extra layer of pavement onto the roadside every time they do plow. (Sigh..)
PCDJ DAC-3 Arrives

My new (heck of a deal) PCDJ DAC-3 controller and PCDJ Red and DEX Software are here.
Installed and running daily as I figure out ‘how-to’ do all the looping functions and save the loops, trigger and import into Acid. This thing has so many features, it’ll be months before I figure them all out – with my hectic schedule that is.. Here are some shots of the hardware installed in the rack and skin on the computer monitor.

Acid Pro 7 Arrives
Posted by Admin | Filed under Uncategorized
The new Acid has been released with its many new features. It’s installed and I’ve been reviewing some of them. A different added interface (the old one is still there) but it’s
more intuitive – more like a real mixer.
New music arrives at Acid Planet this winter after I get my feet wet.
A Few Days into Vista
Posted by Admin | Filed under Uncategorized
Well I mentioned “Computer-ific” in the previous post. I must say that after reinstalling 99% of my software, so far so good. There were a few tweaks, but nothing major.
One thing I have found.. Printers. Sometimes they install easily, sometimes they will only install and be available for certain applications, sometimes not at all. If you have a network printer and change your network - be careful. I could not remap a new (IP address) to the old driver. I had to add a new printer (Copy 1) in order for it to print. Even trying to add a new TCP/IP Port would not allow the printer to print. In the list of printers, it would classify as ‘Ready’, but sending a job to the spooler would only cause it to hang. I would have to Stop and Restart the Spooler application to release the stuck job.
Waiting on Windows 7.. (and it’s only been about a month on this Vista install!)
Computer-ific!

I did it. I know, I said I wasn’t going to but..
Vista Ultimate is now installed on my main PC. I’ve reinstalled –most- of my software from the XP incarnation and only have housekeeping chores to do on my old XP drives. With now over 1 1/2 Terabytes of storage available, video and audio editing will have room to play. (Pun intended!)
Vista does have more security, or at least this is a clean install so it runs much faster. Time will tell.
Ike + Houston = Mess
Posted by Admin | Filed under General
What didn’t get blown away or flooded is a total wreck. Power is slowly being restored and many places still under water. I have a friend, Jay Lindsey, that lives in Conroe, TX which is just north of Houston and no one has heard from him (at our AcidExchange Guild) since the storm. He’s just probably waiting to get things back to normal. Hope he’s okay..
We will be getting rain, wind, and a flyby from Ike’s remnants tonight as it makes its way up the St. Lawrence river valley. Nothing un-ordinary for us really. September now about half over.. here comes fall.
A reminder to cut the pumpkins from the vines soon for the grandkids.
